Macarena started her documentary film career in 2020 when she directed, wrote, and edited her first documentary film "Una Célula Soleda." Since then, she has pursued an academic and professional freelance career as a filmmaker. Macarena is passionate about collaborating with other filmmakers who have an interest in telling stories that focus on social awareness, memory, justice and love. Although her expertise lies in documentary film, she has worked in narrative film as an editor and director of photography.

Un Sueño Eterno is a short poetic documentary filmed in Puerto Rico and New York City about living in the diaspora and constantly trying to find a place of belonging. The film is in Spanish and English exploring the dualism of living in two places at once.

uNA Célula Soleada
Una Célula Soleada “A Sunny Cell,” is a short documentary film about the history, structure and the inhabitants of my house in Puerto Rico. It explores the transformation and evolution of the house for the past 30 years through the collection of home videos, footage from present day (2020) and interviews. In this film, the director wanted to pay tribute to the house that gave her shelter during the most uncertain and difficult times in her life and to her family, who are the reason for her existence.
